Managing school and writing

Its no secret that writing is difficult task, especially as you struggle to find the time for it. As a student in 8th grade, I realized quickly how hard it is for me to even sit down and have the time to write. As some important tests are coming up for me, I already knew that this is going to be hard year, but I never imagined it like this.

So, writing this blog, I'm referring only to the past me, who without an explanation managed to write a draft (30K words) while being still at the beginning, in only one school month.

My plan then was easy. I told myself that if I wrote everyday then I would develop a habit out of it and that happened, but when did I make the time to develop it?

As a student from a school that studies in the afternoon (13.00-19.00), I have plenty of time in the morning, that I use usually for homework. So at the start I wasn't that much of a speed writer actually it even took me 1 hour to write 3 pages, but as I wrote more, I started writing more.

So that leads us to the first tip

1. Write everyday

It might look hard for the people that even so can write like once a month, but its not impossible. Sure its hard at the beginning, but that also means you get to finish your book. I didn't finish my two wips until I started writing regularly on each of them.

2. Try to balance homework

This is the main reason why I never have time, tons and tons of homework. So I started to try and do it more on the spot. As I get out of school at 7 pm, I force myself to do it then as I am much more of a daytime writer rather then a nighttime one. You might need to try and make yourself some kind of timetable and group your writing and other duties very clearly.

3. Find a buddy

A buddy doesn't necessary need to be another writer, but rather someone you can talk with about your wip. That makes you have more motivation to write it, as we know that school is a motivation sucking thing.

4. From my personal experience

When I started writing, almost a year ago, I didn't know most of this things. I was very disorganized and I didn't really have anyone to learn from, so writing blogs and instagram friends that came along later really helped me out on the way. So don't be afraid to ask for advice from other that share your passion, read things about writing from people that have more experience than you and write as much as you can.

Lastly, the most important thing you should never forget in your life is that school is more important then writing.

Goodbye Mad Haters
